Hi

Today Mrs Taylor did an assembly about bulling and she played one of the songs from the year 5 and 6 play Bully last year.

In maths we have learnt how to add and subtract decimal numbers,  it was a  bit tricky. Then in English we are doing a new unit about different fiction genres.

September 30, 2008

We have had a very busy few weeks since the last post on the blog.  Here are some of the Year 6 children to tell you more about it!

Post it notes

We have started using post it notes.  We stick them in our books and write a message to the teacher or the teacher writes a message to us.  If we make mistakes it looks better than the teacher writing all over our work.   The teacher can see what we’re stuck on and if we’re improving on our mistakes.  It helps us to improve on our work.

Art/DT/Music and SEAL

In DT we have been looking at Greek temples.  We are working in groups making the temples.  In music we have been learning how pianos are tuned and we have been playing notes on the piano.  In SEAL we have been learning about feelings and how people felt when they first came into school.  In Art we have been drawing people in motion.

Science

In Sceince we have been learning about micro-organisms and scientists that have discovered ways to stop diseases spreading.  We looked at some famous scientists and what they were famous for such as Robert Koch, Alexander Flemming, Joseph Lister and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu.

Buddies

In Year 6 we have different buddies in different lessons.  We chat about our work and help each other.  We get to make friends with people we might not usually talk to.

NSPCC

The NSPCC lady came into school to talk to us about abuse.  She told us a story about a child who has been abused and with help from the NSPCC she was able to get through it.  We did a sponsored maths test to raise money for the NSPCC.  We got stickers for doing this!!

Christmas Cards

Yes Christmas Cards! We know it’s early but all children in school have been designing their Christmas cards so that they can be sent off and made, ready to be back in school in time for Christmas.

Year 6 Open Evening

Last night year 6 went to an open evening.  Teachers from all over the school were talking about SATs, preparation for them and all the homework.  It was funny when all of the parents had to do a maths test!!

English

In English we have been learning how to write biographies.  We have each chosen a famous person or someone in our family to write a biography about.

Miss Piercy

Miss Piercy is our new deputy head teacher and she has been taking a lot of the assemblies.  She makes the assemblies as fun as she can and we do SAY CHICK A ROCK A BOOM. She is very fair.

We hope you will visit the blog and leave comments about our learning.  That means YOU as well PARENTS!! Check out the new parents page down the right hand side.

Hi

We had a great start to the week by playing our for 15 mins with our class wide reward time.

We were evil in maths today when we thought of tricky number sequences for other people to solve!

We had a really fun time in PE on Thursday playing rugby.  Some of us got to go on the mini laptops with Mr Stygall.

Wednesday 3rd September

September 3, 2008

Hi

Today has been fab!  First we went to singing assembly.  We learned a new song.  We got loads of class wide rewards for being sensible, mature and responsible.  We learned how to mark our own work using tickled pink and green for growth.  In Maths we were learning about square numbers.  After that we had lunch.  Later on we did a science test.  Miss Soulsby reminded us that we need to bring our full PE kit on Thursday and we wrote it in our new planners.  We finished off the covers for our jotters and then we went outside for our class wide reward time.

Tomorrow!

September 1, 2008

Well – it’s finally here!

The five and a half weeks of holiday are over and hopefully so is the wet weather!

I hope you are all looking forward to Year 6.  The planners arrived today and they look great!

I bet you have all grown loads over the holidays and will be as tall, if not taller, than me and Mrs Taylor!!

Look forward to seeing you all in the morning.

Miss Soulsby :-)

Two weeks today!!

August 19, 2008

Hi

I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday and are making the most your time off (despite the horrible weather!).

I’m sure some of you will be starting to think about Year 6 and I hope you are all looking forward to it!

If any of you have any questions about the first day back, post a comment and I’ll see if I can help.

Remember – you have already banked 6 (or was it 7?) class wide rewards for the first day back!!

Look forward to seeing you all soon!!

Miss Soulsby

PS Don’t forget to get your parents commenting on the blog too!!
